Question 1

What does IP68 mean for a cable gland?

Accepted Answer

IP68 under IEC 60529 means the gland is dust-tight (6) and protected against continuous immersion in water (8) under conditions agreed between manufacturer and user. The rating is only valid when the cable outer diameter sits inside the gland's stated clamping range and the cap nut is tightened to the recommended torque.

Question 2

Should I choose a metal or nylon cable gland?

Accepted Answer

Nylon PA66 glands are lightweight, corrosion-free and cost-effective for control cabinets, lighting and general outdoor equipment. Nickel-plated brass or stainless steel glands are preferred where you need mechanical strength, EMC shielding, higher vibration resistance, fire performance or exposure to oils, salt spray and UV.

Which thread standards do HOONSUN cable glands support?
